In an effort to get more kids through the animal nursery, the coordinator got school classes from the local area to adopt an animal from the nursery and create artwork and projects about it.
The grade 3/4s from Devonport Primary adopted the Wessex Saddleback and have been investigating rare breeds and the idea of having to eat bacon to save their bacon (some struggled with this idea!).
Guy and I visited the school with a couple of piglets and a bottle of milk to round-off their studies.
Here's the beautiful work they came up with:
What beautiful artwork from the D'port primary 3/4's! I bet they enjoyed your visit with the piglets.
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see your beautiful little piglets at the Dev show. We really enjoyed speaking to Eliza about Pig raising and the environmental considerations of their care eg: run of into the dam and the possibility of it causing algae blooms due to it's high nutrient value. What a brilliant wealth of knowledge and experience she has. We hope to visit the farm soon and pick her brain a little more before possibly getting some porkers of our own.
ReplyDeleteHello Guy & Eliza hope you are well.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a merry Christmas and a great new year. I will to tucking into one of your hams this Christmas a 6 kg beauty just waiting in my fridge. All the best see you in the new year.
Some comments from my family about your Christmas ham:
ReplyDeletebest ham ever, I won't be able to eat any other now.
delicious,
great flavour,
it's not slimy like the other ham,
I think it was a hit. I told them it was so good because the pigs had happy lives.
I even had some on my salad sandwich (I haven't eaten meat for a few years now)
The best bit....we still have a whole one unopened.
Thanks for the time and effort that you put into growing the pigs, and for delivering them to us too.
cheers Kate (from Mt Hicks)
