This buff sussex hen was quite put-out this morning when a feather got stuck to her comb. A couple of hours after I took the photo she was still trying to shake it off.
Remember the sow with the funny tail that arrived on the farm in December last year?
We thought she must have had it trod on when she was a piglet, but it appears the shape is heritable. One of her nine piglets is not quite like the others.
We've got a lot of little piggies running round getting in to trouble at the moment. They're just the right size to slide under the electric fence.
So straight to the grain shed they go...
i love a blog post with a cliffhanger!

ReplyDeleteGabriel says, love the pussycat with jade plants as background, so stylish, so handsome, so meow, Gabriel's cat Arabella agrees, if she can only stop thinking about herself for a few seconds.
ReplyDeleteHi Eliza and Guy..... this is not so much a comment as an inquiry. I have a problem of the pig type that either you or someone you know can help with. I have a 12 year old Wessex Saddleback sow “Lun“ who lives alone in NSW. Alone except for myself who she follows around all day pestering for a scratch and stealing tools.
ReplyDeleteIt has come to pass that I spend much of my time off the farm and alas she has only the neighbours to feed her in pen and no roaming with the boss. By her reaction when I return I gather she gets very lonely...The pig details are ... I think she still cycles as she gets affectionate around the 20 day mark (not appreciated, particularly if I'm up a ladder)...She is a quiet docile but largish girl with good social values… she loves a scratch and the kids are spell bound by her and her antics... I put her on a diet some years ago (vet instructions) because she was more than just piggy but she is a trim and taught girl these days... no medical problems... I wondered if you would be interested in her as she is either 3/4 or 7/8 pure... if you need these details I can get them from the breeder (Bannockburn Victoria)... I fully realise you would probably have enough breeding sows but some high quality outside blood always helps.... she is also very friendly and likes to go for walks with the family (particularly if you’re going to a water hole)…. As a farm mascot she would fit the bill.
Looking forward to hearing from you
Regards Trevor Beckwith
PS there is no charge for Lun
PPS As she has been a pet for more than the past decade I would like her to go to a good home rather than end up as salami.
